Wing Ding, a nineteen year old 8th Air Force, Flying Fortress tail gunner with
the 560th Squadron, 388th Bomb Group flew in the 1943 era of no fighter escort.
He completed his combat tour and returned to the United States. To help sell War Bonds.
When he learned his twin brother, S/Sgt. John W. Carson had been shot down and reported
killed in action over Athens, Greece, December 23, 1943, Wing Ding again
returned to combat.
This time to the 327th Squadron, 92nd Bomb Group as a tail gunner and flight engineer in
an unrelenting search for his brother.
